It's that time of year again... WUFF Ball!

January 28, 2018

Dear past, present and future WUFF members,

You are all invited to the biggest and classiest WUFF event of the year, this year's ball.
This time we have said goodbye to Chesford Grange. Even though we've had some great times there over the last few years, we decided it's time for a change. This year we will be visiting the beautiful Compton Verney.

Your ticket includes:
-A lovely 3 course meal (food choices TBA nearer the time)
-Photos against the incredible background that is this year's venue
-Most importantly, the most generous drinks package we could negotiate (1 glass of prosecco on before dinner, 1/2 a bottle of wine pp, 1 glass of prosecco after dinner)
Prices: £52.50 for members, £55 non members. A ticket link will be posted on this page in the next couple of days.

A bus ticket for transport to and from either campus or Leamington will also be available for £5.

As always we will be heading to Kelsey's after the ball to give the old boys a chance to relive their favourite WUFF days with a big circle and there will also be the option for everyone of going out after too!

We would love to see as many of you there as possible for potentially our biggest WUFF event of the year! Please also feel free to bring a plus one (or two if you feel like it).

Lots of love,
Your presidents x

November 11, 2017

This weekend we embarked on our first of 3 trips to Ponds Forge for the year. We took a team of OliJevgenijChristianHarry JacobSeanPanayiotisJoshTamaraSophieLilySophie PeggsValentyna. As a whole it was a really good team performance, it was great to see so many personal bests being set and some big swims in the relays.

Sean, Panayiotis, Josh and Jacob also swam well for the B team, finishing 50th in 1:40.69.

Finishing off the morning session well in the 100 butterfly was Sophie in the women’s pool Pbing in 1:09.54. Jacob and Sean also PBd in the men’s pool in 1:00.35 and 1:00.28, narrowly missing the sub 60 barrier. In the afternoon, Oli PB’d in the 200 backstroke in 2:09.36, finishing 19th. Another 50 PB came in the 50 freestyle for Lily in 28.20, and Sean in 26.52. The Saturday afternoon session was concluded by the medley relay. The men’s B team of Harry, Panayiotis, Sean, Josh also finished well despite Harry swimming directly into the wall on the backstroke leg (see video below), finishing 57th in 1:54.49. The team returned in the evening for the finals session to cheer on Jev and the men’s relay. Both swims were faster than their respective heats with Jev finishing 3rd in 28.71 and the relay finishing 6th in 1:35.22.

Sunday morning started with the 100 freestyle with the boys putting in strong swims with all of Sean, Christian, Harry and Oli all setting best times in 56.99, 53.84, 53.11 and 53.07 respectively. The weekend finished off with the men’s medley B final with the boys swimming well after a long weekend in a tough race finishing 6th in exactly the same time as the heats.

Shout outs for the weekend go to fresher’s Harry and Lily for their performances on the medley relays, to Christian for his faaabulous new warm up and to Sofia Cuquerella for coming up on Sunday to support the team despite not swimming. Well done everyone!

Swimming BUCS League at Sheffield

January 01, 2020

This weekend marked our 2nd trip to Sheffield this year for the BUCS LC Championships. Overall, the weekend was a massive success with best times being set across the weekend and team spirit at an all-time high. We took a team of: OliJackChristianDanielleJosh PatelJennyNikkiToomasRobertPanayiotisRussAlexJordanJoshTamaraJodie and Oba.

We started the weekend off on Friday evening with the men’s and women’s 4x100 freestyle relays taking to the pool. Despite some fast times set on some of the legs, both teams eagerness to get in the pool ended up being their downfalls- with both teams being disqualified for early takeovers.

Luckily the team bounced back quickly from Friday’s disappointment and we saw some big performances on the Saturday. Toomas didn’t let the pressure get to him and kicked off Saturday strongly with a fast 50m backstroke in a time of 28.68. Panagiotis also performed well on the 50m breaststroke, posting a time of 31.52. The end of the morning sessions saw Josh Patel finishing a strong 15th in the 400 IM, Warwick’s highest finishing position of the weekend. In the afternoon Danielle put in a great swim on the 50m freestyle finishing in 27.75, which was a huge PB and gave her a top 20 finish. Josh Patel carried on from his strong start to the weekend with a PB in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:43.09. Saturday came to a close with both the men and women competing in the 4x100 IM relay. The girls team of Tamara, Jodie, Nikki and Danielle all put in good swims to finish 31st. The boys team of Oli, Panagiotis, Toomas and Christian finished a strong 17th and progressed through to the B final, extending the teams stay in Sheffield by a few hours.

Sunday started bright and early with all the team feeling fresh and ready for the final days racing. Toomas and Rob started the day strongly with fast swims in the 100m freestyle with times of 54.85 and 56.81 respectively. Josh Patel produced another PB in his ever improving 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:12.41. In the 50m fly, Danielle produced another PB and won her heat by a good margin in a time of 30.46, Russ also matched his entry time of 31.39. Jenny finished off Warwick’s individual swims for the weekend well with a PB in the 400m freestyle, with a time of 4:52.38. The boys came back in the evening session with a strong performance after a long weekends racing, narrowly missing their entry time from the heats.

Stand out performances of the weekend go to Christian in the 100m fly, who finished so quickly I didn’t even see him swim, Fee for coming to cheer on the team and to Jodie who performed better than she has been recently, especially during the Saturday evening session.

Another win for the girls

February 14, 2017

Well done to our women's team on a very convincing 28-9 win against UEA last night! Great performance from everyone with a special shout out to Izzy, Rachel and Kira on their debut match. Also shoutout to the very brave Reem for the great effort- we hope you have a speedy recovery!

BUCS short course!

November 13, 2016

This weekend we took to Sheffield once again for the annual BUCS short course championships. It was a really good weekend of racing with a large amount of PBs produced by the team of: OliJackChristianToomasJevgenijPanayiotisJoshRobertAlexRussDanielleJennyNikkiLauraTamaraJordanLiz and Jodie
Friday started strongly with both the men’s and women’s 4x50m freestyle relays kicking things off. The B team of Alex, Panayiotis, Christian and Rob also put out a great performance and really emphasised the strength in depth of the boys this year. On the girl’s side of the pool the A team of Danielle, Liz, Laura and Jodie finished in a fast 1:52.65, placing 26th with the B team of Jenny, Tamara, Jordan and Nikki also performing well with a 2:01.22. Saturday afternoon meant more relays, with the men’s A team of Oli, Panayiotis, Jev and Toomas finishing 25th with a 1:47.63, a 6 seconds PB from last year, and the B team of Russ, Alex, Rob and Christian finishing well with a 1:58.16. For the girls, the A team of Liz, Jodie, Nikki and Danielle finished 35th with a 2:08.07, and the B team of Jordan, Tamara, Laura and Jenny also put in a good effort to finish in 2:13.57. The team came back for the finals session to cheer on Jev, who finished with an impressive 5th in the 50m breaststroke B final, with a 29.20. More PBs came on Sunday, in the 100m breaststroke (Panayiotis 1:06.25, Jev 1:05.26), the 200 IM (Rob, 2:16.50) and the 50m butterfly (Danielle 30.32, Russ 30.70). The 100m freestyle also saw some impressive swims, with a 53.24 from Toomas, and PBs from both Oli 54.16 and Alex 59.50.

Shout out to Gabriel Pace, Christian Howitt, Alec Eisenkolb, Sachin Marco, Mamas Louca on their first team debuts!

A strong opening quarter and solid defence gave us a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. With efficient attacking play we pushed forwards to a half time score of 13-2. The game was well and truly over by the end of the 3rd at 20-4. We then saw out the final quarter strongly.

The team was DC, Alex Joe (1), TJ (3), Gabriel A (10), Christian (1), Eden (1), Sachin, Gabriel P (8), Alec (1), Mamas (2). (Goals in brackets)

Dosthill Quarry open water day!

June 24, 2016

For a different and very enjoyable end of term 3 social, we were lucky enough to be able to take a group of WUFFians to Dosthill Quarry where the team organised some great activities, including kayaking, cliff jumping and raft building, as well as a great BBQ for afterwards!

Despite some very temperamental weather, the day was a great success and we are hoping to run something similar next summer!

Polo successes

After the most intense week of polo this term, with a grand total of 10 matches between all four squads and only two losses, our teams are looking in the strongest position yet!
The men's team started off with an impressive win against Manchester University, after an incredibly tight game, Warwick tipped the score to 4-3 in the final quarter to advance to the next stage of BUCS Trophy. This was followed by a dominating victory over Leicester 18-4, narrowly missing the 25 point goal difference per game necessary to overcome Nottingham and win the league. However, a fantastic performance at their BUCS tournament on Saturday, beating Cambridge 2nds 31-6 and delivering a crushing 44-4 defeat to UEA, leaves Warwick Men's at the top of every league, maintaining their unbeaten title.

The Women's BUCS squad also had a busy week. Last Saturday, they took on Leicester, UEA and Oxford in a home tournament, beating Leicester and UEA 11-8 and 17-1 respectively, although suffering a narrow loss against Oxford. However, after regrouping over the weekend, and with the help of their fantastic ex-captain Queen Cheng, the girls secured an incredible 18-3 victory over the ex-premier BUCS division team to secure second position in their BUCS league. This was followed by their first round of BUCS trophy vs. York on Wednesday, using the defensive tactics employed so effectively against Oxford, they managed a fantastic 11-8 win to take them through to the second round. On top of this, our Ladies 2nds had one further match against Nottingham 1sts on Tuesday, although suffering a 25-3 loss, the girls remained positive, holding only a -3 goal difference in the second half against the strongest team in the league.

Congratulations to everyone who played! Both teams will be competing in the next round of BUCS trophy next Wednesday, 3pm in our very own pool. Come along and show your support!!

BUCS Long Course

February 20, 2016

This weekend, the swimmers took to Sheffield’s Ponds Forge again for their Long Course BUCS competition. The Friday evening saw a strong start to the weekend, with both the girl’s and boy’s 4x100m freestyle relay teams putting in some strong performances, seeing the girls qualify in 8th for the B Final. In the final they knocked another 2 seconds off their qualifying time, seeing them finish in 5th after a storming leg from Danielle.Saturday morning saw some more PBs tumble for Davide in the 200m freestyle and Alex in the 50m breaststroke. The afternoon saw both Danielle and Christian storm to PBs in the ever competitive 50m freestyle (28.37 and 25.83 respectively), whilst both Alex and Josh setting new PBs in the 200m breaststroke. To continue the trend, Josh sent another PB clattering in the medley relay, pulling out an impressive 1.11.73 and knocking 3 seconds off his previous PB, a swim followed by a great 100m fly from Jacob.Sunday saw much the same pattern. Danielle finished 16th in the 100m freestyle, a very impressive feat in such a competitive event, with a time of 1.01.28. Another strong swim from Josh in the 100m breaststroke was followed by an equally impressive 200IM from Rob (and his freshly shaven legs), seeing him swim a 2.22.81 with a brilliant breaststroke leg that took the whole field by surprise! Finally, the 50m fly saw Connie destroy her entry time, pulling out a 31.83, even after her earlier efforts in the 200IM.A massive well done to everyone who came away with us. For the sake of brevity we’ve highlighted but a few of the excellent performances that happened, but everyone should be coming away feeling pleased and aiming for new targets. Finally, a deserved shout out to TJ for his effort in the 100m free following his adventurous night making contacts with other unis. Happy birthday TJ!Captains out x

February 06, 2016

On Sunday we hosted our attempt to swim the distance of the channel, all in the name of charity! 9 teams and one brave, brave individual took part, with everyone completing their planned distance, totalling at a crazy 335km (further than London to Paris).

A big thanks to everyone who took part, raised money and helped the event to run smoothly in general, and special mention to our swimming captain Jenny Chaplin who swam the entire 33.5km distance on her own! Overall we managed to raise £3,150 which will all be going to our charity for the year, unique. This is a seriously great effort, over 3 times what we were aiming for! If you would still like to donate please visit, and give to any of the teams!

EY Skills Workshop

January 01, 2020

Are you bored of traditional employers' skills workshops and wish they involved more water?

Have you ever wanted to combine your passion for having a splash with your studious commitment to improving your life skills and increasing your employability?

Are you concerned that your admirable commitment to your sport is ultimately a fruitless desire to prolong your adolescence, and ultimately constitutes a time consuming distraction which has no place in the adult world?

Fear not, our sponsors EY, in a stark departure from how skills workshops are usually run (i.e., not with the audience in speedos) are crashing regular training on Saturday 30th of January to bring you EY Skills Workshop in a Pool.

EY will be showing you how the skills and attitudes you use in everyday regular training are excellent demonstrations of exactly the skills sought after by employers.

There are two slots:
***SWIMMING*** - regular training slot from 8.30-10.30 (expect relays)
***WATER POLO*** - 14.00-16.00

BUCS League!

December 12, 2015

Well done to the team that went to BUCS League yesterday. We saw some excellent swimming; consistently placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in our heat, leaving us 5th overall in Division II.

Without the new Loughborough C we would have equalled our 4th place finish from the last time we were in Division II in 13/14. A 5th is still really positive, but it's a bit unclear how things will proceed from here as B and C teams can't be promoted. It's a shame the competition is structured as it is but there is not much we can do!

Both the girls and guys relays were very strong in free and medley, coming 1st or 2nd, with the guys medley relay team dropping 3 seconds from BUCS Short Course for a 1.50, and the girls destroying both of their heats. Everyone put in some really good swims and we saw loads of PBs in individual events: Jenny, Rob, Oli, Jodie and Danielle all had excellent times - but there's still more we can do! Well done team!

Warwick Women's Water Polo

January 01, 2020

In a challenging week for the women's first team, the girls took on Birmingham 1s away on Thursday, undoubtedly one of our hardest upolo matches of the season. Despite some excellent defensive team play and strong goal keeping from our ever reliable ex-pres Megan Digweed Davies, this culminated in a frustrating 8-5 loss. Two days later we travelled to Nottingham for our first round of BUCS, undeterred by the result on Thursday the girls kicked proceedings off with a beautiful 29-3 victory against UEA, quickly followed by another 18-6 win over Leicester. In both of these matches the team held control over the match, slowing down play and setting up the goals so that every single player brought with us was able to shoot and score. The day ended with one of our most important matches of the season so far vs Nottingham 1sts, with both teams tiring after a full day of polo. The warwick girls continued to play a strong defensive game, however the large number of 5 metre fouls given against us, and some frustrating sendings out led to a dissapointing [ ] win for Nottingham. Player of the week can only be given to Queen Cheng for being the most skilful and most reliable team mate, especially in tough situations, we don't know what we'd do without you!

Men's Triumph over Loughborough

January 01, 2020

Men’s triumph over Loughborough broke a six-year record of unlucky away game performances against them. With a stunning 9-14 win, this game will remain as one of the most beautiful matches played in the season. What a great way to end the season!
Our Team Junior, Jack Pickford, was named as the Man of the Match who performed at his pique and scored key goals when we needed them the most.
Well done boys!

Oxford Freshers Gala

October 31, 2015

Saturday saw our freshers from our competitive squad head down to Oxford to compete, coming away with an excellent 5th place finish against some tough competition and some great swims looking in great form for BUCS. Massive well done to Oli winning the 100m backstroke, 3rd place finishes for Christian, Laura, Jodie and Emma, and massive thank you to Laura and Jacob for jumping in for a surprise 200m Freestyle.

Warwick Men's 1st v Aston Bears

October 29, 2015

The Men's team kept their 100% win rate by dominating Aston in their pool. Regardless of some questionable refereeing and odd pool size, the team managed to score twice as much as conceded. As a result, Warwick Men's 1st have taken the lead lead in the U-Polo Midlands League.

Week 5 is packed with games, make sure you come along on Monday, 6-7:30, to watch Men's 2 playing against Birmingham 2.
The next day, on Tuesday, 7-8:30, Men's 1st will be facing Coventry.
Finally, on Saturday, 3:30-5:00 Men's 1st will tackle Nottingham 1st.

Cambridge Meet

October 23, 2015

Well done to the strong team of swimmers who came away with a second place finish at Cambridge Annual Team Gala on Saturday! At the end of the session, we ran some fun relays, culminating in all of our freshers meeting tons of new people and leaving with a smile! We hope to see you all in the future!
